Promo VO 2023

When I first set out to become a voice actor, the hardest thing for me to learn was how to get the “radio” out of my voice. I’d been working in radio for so many years that I had a deeply ingrained announcer-y style. Getting rid of that sound and learning how to act for voiceover was my first priority. So, in the beginning I focused on commercial, narration, and animation work. I wanted to book jobs that were as far from “radio” sounding as possible.

I always planned on eventually jumping back into promo work - specifically radio and TV imaging. Now, it’s been long enough and I’m very comfortable with my commercial sound. Over the past year I started doing VO and production work for one of the larger radio companies, Audacy. It was like riding a bike. All the radio announcer styles came flooding back to me, even better than ever thanks to all the vocal training I’d been doing. Working for Audacy gave me access to a huge variety of radio stations to voice and produce for, helping me develop new voice styles and deliveries that I hadn’t really used in the past.

It was time for a new demo.
